One Room Challenge
I am excited to announce for the next 8 weeks, I will be participating as a guest host in the @oneroomchallenge / @betterhomesandgardens for the first time! I was so inspired seeing everyones transformations last fall, I decided to give this year a shot.
Week 1
As you can see from my #moodboard - I will be updating our guest bedroom in our basement. This room has not been touched since we moved in, so I can’t hardly wait to give this room a face lift. Since our basement was refinished by previous owners in 2008, it has dry wall (!!) so I have the green light for some batten walls.
With the guest bedroom refresh, we will be taking some of the furniture from this room below as we are making some changes to better suit our needs.
I feel like it was just yesterday we painted & turned this space into my office / guest room combo....and here we are, changing it up again.
I will definitely miss this space but hoping to make it into a more functional room for Dave & I.
Week 2
It has been a fun week of planning our guest bedroom makeover. After selling every piece of furniture in the room, we are now working with a blank slate & I am starting to get excited.
Next up… Paint. WHY must picking paint be so hard? I did a lot of research on green paints, purchased several samples (up to 6 now ) and I change my mind with every phase of the day….crazy how much lighting makes a difference.
We narrowed down the 6 samples to 3 and really love the one we choose! Keep reading to find out!
Week 3
It has been a whirlwind of a week, which would explain my sad & late progress report. The good news is, I have made a decision on paint colors. After hundreds of votes, it was nearly a tie between Hunter’s Pointe & Coastal Plain, which was tough because those were my top two favorites. 🥁 roll....HUNTER’S POINTE is the winner!
Since these photos, I said ✌🏼 out to the awful peach wall and slapped a coat of primer on.
▫️Board & Batten Paint: Hunter’s Pointe - SW. This truly gave me the green hue I was going for in all lighting of the day. Coastal Plain was too light & Illusive Green was too dark.
Week 4
Board & Batten is complete - here’s a sneak peak! It’s not perfect as we had some issues with spacing due to the outlets but for our first time, I’ll take it.
I’m obsessed with the color green we went with, it gives the room the perfect warmth I was looking for. Now here’s to hoping my vision of the design all comes together.
Week 5
What a week… I can’t quite believe we got the guest room livable - if only you could have seen it 3 days ago.
I am really loving the way this room is taking shape! I have been doing my best to use what we have but I did purchase new side tables and love them! Leave it to Joanna, affordable and great quality.
Week 6
We worked hard to make it livable as we had our first guests stay in the room this past weekend. Found this tray at the #targetdollarspot & our friends got quite the kick out of it.
I purchased blackout curtains from Target that I LOVE & this beige quilt that I am super pleased with! @target for the win, per usual.
I have a few hook options picked out and are shown below. Which one do you like?
Week 7
The bench is done! This was my first go at reupholstery and I think it went okay. I love the natural wood look of this bench, trying to decide whether to leave it as is and seal it, or stain it a light color. Leaning towards just sealing. One more week until the final reveal, I couldn’t be more excited!
Week 8 - The Reveal is Here!
After 8 weeks of the @oneroomchallenge the space is complete & I love the way it came together.
Thanks to @betterhomesandgardens for keeping us on track to get this bedroom refresh complete. I don’t know about you but I am the ultimate procrastinator so it always helps me to have a deadline.
I was able to use most of what we already had but did have to purchase furniture as we sold it prior to starting this project. Mostly everything you see is from @targetstyle 🤩
This was our first attempt at #boardandbatten & reupholstering furniture and I would say I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Paint was definitely the biggest struggle for me but I am loving the green and white combo. This was first go at white walls and I love how much brighter the room feels.
